Mitra CanCare hosted an exclusive session with Dr. RP Deo, a member of the Medical Advisory Council, providing insights into how cancer affects the common man. Dr. Deo, a leader in cancer prevention efforts, emphasized the significance of early detection and prevention, particularly in combating tobacco-related cancers prevalent in India.
About Dr. Deo

Dr. Ravi Deo did his MBBS from Government Medical College, Jabalpur and then went on to do his Masters in General Surgery at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. It was during his tenure, as Senior Resident at TMH that, he developed a keen interest in the field of Head & Neck Surgery which lead him to obtain a Diploma in the same, from the prestigious Institute Gustave-Roussy in Paris, France where he also worked as a consultant.

On his return to India, Dr. Deo established the first exclusive Head & Neck Oncology Dept. at Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bangalore in 1985. He subsequently established the Dept. of Surgical Oncology in Manipal Hospital, Bangalore, where he is currently a consultant. He practices at B.G.Rudrappa Hospital, wherein, he runs a Head & Neck clinic. He is also a Consultant at Manipal Hospital.

His areas of special interest are, Tumors of the Parotid & Thyroid Gland, and his experience in this field is unparalleled. As a Head & Neck Oncologist, he works closely with various medical & surgical specialities, such as Radiation Oncologist, Medical Oncologist, Facio-Maxillary & Neurosurgeons.

Dr. Deo has a keen interest in creating health awareness in regards to Cancers in India, since, if detected early, most of our cancers are curable. Not only that, since India has the highest incidence of Oral Cancers attributable to Tobacco chewing and hence totally preventable, he initiated the screening program for these cancers under the aegis of Rotary Foundation.

Interested in teaching and academics, apart from giving numerous lectures and orations he has also conducted live surgical demonstrations at clinical meetings within the country and abroad.

Dr. Deo was awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Excellence Award in 1996 and the Kempegowda Award in 2006 for his contributions to the field of Head & Neck Surgery in India.
